06.05.21 The 2nd Practice for Developing Healthy Personal Boundaries as You Wait

2. Build Practical Limits that Protect Purity

As you wait, establish clear limits that preserve your commitment to obedience and reduce temptation. Decide in advance which places, situations and interaction times are appropriate and what access should remain limited until marriage. These choices preserve restraint and prevent compromise that could otherwise be avoided. See what 1 Thessalonians 4:3–5 says ( ): “3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;”

Adopt strict measures such as meeting in public, avoiding late night conversations or refraining from spending time alone with a person of the opposite sex. Keep the relationship within clear limits so that emotions do not rush ahead of wisdom. Do not allow any window for private closeness, as this can easily weaken your self-control and cloud your judgement. Set boundaries against physical touch and sensitive discussions.

Define clear limits for social media interactions by being intentional about how you communicate, who has access to your accounts and the kind of engagement you allow online. This includes limiting private or late-night conversations, avoiding flirtatious or suggestive exchanges and being mindful of how familiarity develops through direct messaging. In addition, exercise restraint in what you share and how you interact, ensuring that your online presence does not invite unnecessary emotional attachment or undermine the standards you have set for your relationship.
