06.01.20 The 2nd Practice for Developing Personal Spiritual Alignment as You Wait

2. Align Your Daily Life with God’s Word and Leading

While you wait, spiritual alignment must be reflected in how your daily life is structured. It is not enough to have moments of devotion. To the contrary, your thinking, decisions and responses should consistently reflect your relationship with God. The bible teaches us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), pointing to an ongoing consciousness of God’s presence rather than isolated moments of prayer.

At the same time, maintain a deliberate ‘quiet time’ where you can focus without distraction. In addition to praise and thanksgiving, submit your plans, choices and concerns to God consistently. This discipline keeps you grounded and steady regardless of changing circumstances.

Engage with God’s Word intentionally by reading, meditating on and obeying it, even in seemingly small issues. Let it always guide your speech, conduct and responses, even when you are under pressure, offended or tempted in private. Such a lifestyle prepares you to remain spiritually aligned when a relationship begins. You are also able to use God’s guidance to discern whether a prospective partner shares your values or not.
