06.03.18 The 1st Practice for Developing a Mature and Responsible Approach to Commitment as You Wait
1. Build a Biblical Understanding of ‘Covenant Commitment’
During your waiting season, take time to understand the meaning of ‘covenant commitment’ from a biblical perspective. Covenant commitment extends beyond emotional sentiment or romance-driven promises to a deliberate decision to remain faithful, truthful and consistent, even when life becomes demanding. The bible affirms that God is faithful and keeps covenant with those who honour Him (Deuteronomy 7:9). Therefore focus on developing loyalty, honesty, shared purpose and a willingness to place the needs of the relationship above personal preferences with your future partner.
Prayerfully examine whether you are prepared for such a permanent covenant before entering one. Commitment in marriage is not sustained by feelings alone but by reverence for God, mutual respect and a steadfast willingness to honour vows even as you navigate the ordinary demands of life. Allow God’s Word to shape your understanding so that you view commitment as a spiritual responsibility rather than a romantic milestone.
