06.04.20 The 1st Practice for Developing Purity and Self-Control as You Wait

1. Manage your Thoughts and Desires

As you wait, train yourself to manage your thoughts and desires with spiritual maturity. Purity is not limited to avoiding physical compromise or intimacy before marriage. Rather, it also includes cultivating clean intentions and disciplined thinking. Therefore, when attraction begins to cloud your judgement or influence your actions, learn to deliberately redirect your thoughts towards what is right, honourable and godly, so that you respond with wisdom rather than impulse. Guard your imaginations, since what is sustained in the mind will ultimately shape your actions (Proverbs 4:23). Psalm 119:9 asserts that purity is preserved by aligning your life with God’s Word.
