06.01.08 The 2nd Key for Evaluating a Prospective Partner's Spiritual Alignment Is There Evidence of a Consistent Personal Relationship with God?
2. Is There Evidence of a Consistent Personal Relationship with God?
Assess if the prospective partner maintains a personal relationship with God. Does the person consistently create time for prayer and engagement with God’s Word? Is reverence for God evident in the individual’s private life? Does the person remain spiritually grounded regardless of mood, convenience or circumstances?
Mary must have recognised the vibrant relationship between Joseph and his Creator. In the same vein, Joseph must have witnessed Mary's unwavering and serious relationship with God. Their personal lives were a blueprint of Jehovah's guidance and directions, given that the couple consistently followed His instructions. By reverencing God, they were well-equipped to execute His divine assignment as Jesus' earthly parents (Luke 1:38, Matthew 1:24; Matthew 2:13–15).
In contrast, Harriet’s relationship with God left a lot to be desired, as Donald began to observe a pattern in the intern’s spiritual life that did not align with his. Of note was her inconsistent church attendance, with missed worship services depending on her mood or convenience, which sharply contrasted with Donald’s devout commitment to such gatherings. This gradually created spiritual misalignment between them.
A prospective partner’s consistent personal relationship with God is clearly seen through regular engagement with His Word, prayer and willingness to follow divine guidance. When you and your partner connect with God at a personal level, you nurture a relationship that is spiritually aligned, building strength and resilience for the future.
