06.05.20 The 1st Practice for Developing Healthy Personal Boundaries as You Wait

1. Establish Biblically Grounded Standards

During your season of waiting, establish the spiritual boundaries God requires before getting emotionally attached to anyone. Allow purity to become your second nature by choosing obedience to God and protecting your purity with seriousness. Take time to identify what needs protection, what should not be normalised and what should never be acceptable in a God-honouring relationship. From these standards, determine the practical behaviours, interactions and patterns you will allow and establish your boundaries accordingly. Be intentional about stating boundaries calmly, clearly and early rather than waiting until it is too late.

A God-honouring relationship requires defined limits instead of assuming people will behave responsibly without guidance. When boundaries are stated early, they create order and reduce confusion because both people understand the standards guiding the relationship. This clarity helps prevent misunderstandings and unnecessary emotional hurt. As Proverbs 4:23 says (NIV): “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”.
