06.02.09 The 3rd Key for Evaluating Purpose, Direction and Vision in a Prospective Partner Does the Person's Daily Habits Demonstrate a Sense of Direction?
3. Does the Person’s Daily Habits Demonstrate a Sense of Direction?
Observe if a prospective partner’s daily habits show that the person is intentionally working towards his or her goals. Does the individual manage time effectively in order to fulfill the goals? Does the person’s routines show discipline and commitment to long-term development?
Since, as already discussed, Priscilla and Aquila's narrative suggests that they pursued the same goals, the couple must also have noticed that each person’s daily habits were headed in the same direction. As tentmakers, they would have been coordinating their tasks and assignments to run their work in tandem, integrating their vocation, hospitality and teaching so that they could sustain themselves while supporting the early church (Acts 18:1–3).
Sebastian's daily habits showed a limited sense of direction. While he spoke about the future success for Lydia Organics, it was all 'cheap talk' since his routines didn't reflect any structured planning or consistent action towards building the business. To the contrary, the man would just wake up and sit somewhere downtown, directionless, waiting to catch the next deal as he fanned dreams of migrating to ‘the land of opportunity'.
A prospective partner’s direction is revealed through daily habits rather than what the person says. As the saying goes, talking is cheap and actions speak louder than words. A person’s daily habits reveal one’s readiness to pursue your shared direction. A partner whose routines support your long-term goals is more likely to contribute to building a stable and meaningful relationship.
