06.04.23 The 4th Practice for Developing Purity and Self-Control as You Wait
4. Face Vulnerability Candidly and Depend on God
Some people yield to temptation because they attempt to manage stress, insecurity or emotional emptiness through temporary substitutes such as sex, food or entertainment. Therefore, as you wait, learn to face emotional discomfort without turning to these alternatives for relief. Be honest with God about your desires and struggles. Allow God’s Word to renew your mind and strengthen your spirit so that you obey His instructions.
Build a purposeful and ordered life rather than one shaped by dependence on temporary substitutes. A structured routine brings clarity of thought. In addition, strengthening your spirit reduces unhealthy cravings. Further, grounding your identity in God reduces the need for external validation. You begin to understand that your worth is not defined by momentary pleasure or human approval but by your standing before God. This clarity produces stability and concretises your ability to resist compromise and walk in purity.
Do not look to relationships to meet needs that only God can handle. By focusing on your relationship with God and allowing Him to meet your deepest needs, you gain the strength to refuse compromise and choose obedience.
