07.05.22 The 4th Practice for Developing Personal Emotional Healing and Forgiveness as You Wait Reflect Honestly and Seek Wise Counsel

4. Reflect Honestly and Seek Wise Counsel

Take time to reflect on your experiences so that you can understand what happened and why. Write your thoughts, ask yourself honest questions and examine your responses. Reflection helps you to gain clarity about your experiences and recognise areas that require growth, strengthening and improvement.

Seek counsel from trusted and emotionally mature individuals who can guide you with wisdom and objectivity. Candid guidance helps you to see what you may have overlooked, preventing you from repeating patterns of behaviour that could hinder your progress. Proverbs 11:14 emphasises the importance of wise guidance. It reads (NKJV): “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”

As you reflect and receive counsel, you gain deeper self-understanding and improved emotional awareness, becoming wiser, more discerning and better prepared to make healthier relational decisions.
