07.05.21 The 3rd Practice for Developing Personal Emotional Healing and Forgiveness as You Wait Practise Forgiveness and Release Emotional Burdens

3. Practise Forgiveness and Release Emotional Burdens

Forgiveness begins with acknowledging the hurt and choosing to release the hold it has on your heart. It involves letting go of blame and refusing to keep an emotional debt against that person. You no longer hold the offence against the individual or continually revisit the wrong she or he committed. Therefore, forgive those who have offended you, not to excuse the offence but to free your heart from the weight of bitterness and resentment.

Practise forgiveness intentionally and repeatedly until the memory no longer governs your emotions. Forgiveness does not deny what happened. It releases your focus from revenge and redirects it toward healing and restoration. Releasing emotional burdens brings peace and renewal in your heart. The bible instructs us to remove bitterness and resentment. Ephesians 4:31–32 says (NKJV): “31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”.

As you practise forgiveness with sincerity, you gain emotional freedom and are able to move forward without being controlled by past wounds or experiences.
