07.04.17 The 1st Practice for Developing a Nurturing Behaviour as You Wait Practise Being Present in Your Interactions

1. Practise Being Present in Your Interactions

Learn to be present and fully engaged when you are with people. Listen attentively, ask thoughtful questions and respond with care. Avoid rushing to conclusions or making assumptions. Focus on understanding where the other person is coming from so that your response reflects awareness and respect. ‘Presence’ builds trust and emotional connection.

Being fully present makes you more aware of the needs and feelings of other people, creating a safe and welcoming space where individuals can easily open up and express themselves. This strengthens transparency and encourages honest interaction. James 1:19 emphasises the importance of attentive listening. It says (AMP): “Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving]; …”

Being consistently present helps you to build stronger and more meaningful relationships. It develops attentiveness, emotional sensitivity and relational awareness, preparing you to nurture others with patience, understanding and care.
