07.03.20 The 4th Practice for Developing the Understanding and Application of Love Languages as You Wait Develop Consistency in Expressing Love and Care
4. Develop Consistency in Expressing Love and Care
Learn to be consistent in how you express love and care in your daily interactions rather than doing so occasionally or as a ‘one off’ or through isolated gestures during special moments, apologies or celebrations. Consistent expression builds trust, while inconsistency creates uncertainty and a sense of insecurity.
Practise how to regularly express care and appreciation through words and actions. Be ‘present’ in your interactions. Take note of how people respond and adjust your expressions to be in sync with their responses, whether through a kind word, a timely check-in or offering support when it is needed. Let such responses become your norm or ‘second nature’ rather than waiting for significant moments to respond with love and care.
Do not be cosmetic, pretentious or hypocritical, as people will soon notice. The Bible asserts that love must be demonstrated through genuine action, not merely words. See what 1 John 3:18 says (AMP): “Little children (believers, dear ones), let us not love [merely in theory] with word or with tongue [giving lip service to compassion], but in action and in truth [in practice and in sincerity, because practical acts of love are more than words]”.
