07.02.01 Introducing Emotional Maturity

Introducing Emotional Maturity

Many relational breakdowns stem from unmanaged emotions, overboard reactions and an inability to constructively navigate disappointment or conflict. Mature relationships require individuals who can regulate their emotions, take responsibility for their reactions and engage others with self-awareness and restraint, especially when circumstances are challenging, difficult and demanding; rather than sustaining a relationship through pressure or uncontrolled emotional responses, fault-finding and instability.

In this chapter, I will discuss how emotional maturity works in our marriage. Using the fictitious story of Selina and Adrian alongside the biblical account of Isaac and Rebekah, we will provide guidance on evaluating a prospective partner’s emotional maturity; and how to develop that kind of maturity as you wait.
