07.02.19 The 1st Practice for Developing Emotional Maturity as You Wait Develop Self-Awareness through Honest Personal Reflection
1. Develop Self-Awareness through Honest Personal Reflection
Recognise that emotional maturity begins with self-awareness. Therefore, take time to understand what triggers certain reactions, thoughts or fears in you. Reflect on your past experiences and identify patterns that may be influencing your present responses. Separate the current reality from the pain that you may have incurred in the past; and learn to respond with composure rather than reacting spontaneously or uncontrollably.
Practise self-reflection as a personal audit to help you communicate better and foster peace in your relationships. Use self-reflection to understand how to navigate complex emotions and relationships. Lamentations 3:40 encourages honest self-examination. It reads (NIV): “Let us examine our ways and test them, …”.
Endeavour to understand yourself deeply, so that you become more confident in your interactions with others. Do not be a stranger to yourself. Allow this confidence to extend into other areas of your life as that will bring greater clarity, stability and fulfilment n you and those you interact with.
