07.03.21 The 5th Practice for Developing the Understanding and Application of Love Languages as You Wait Practise Selfless and Balanced Love
5. Practise Selfless and Balanced Love
Learn to give and receive love without comparison, competition or scorekeeping. Genuine love is not driven by obligation or expectation, but is expressed freely and with a willingness to consider others. Therefore, practise giving in a way that is not transactional, where your actions are not based on what you will receive in return.
Be mindful to express love in a balanced manner. Avoid going overboard, neglecting others or becoming self-centered in your approach. Healthy love is neither one-sided nor demanding, but thoughtful, considerate and respectful. This kind of balance strengthens your emotional stability and guides how you relate with people in a wise and measured way. 1 Corinthians 13:1–13 describes that kind of love.
As you practise selfless and balanced love, your character becomes more grounded in patience and humility, and your ability to care for others is strengthened in a meaningful and lasting way.
