07.03.18 The 2nd Practice for Developing the Understanding and Application of Love Languages as You Wait : 2. Communicate Emotional Needs Clearly
2. Communicate Emotional Needs Clearly
Discuss emotional needs openly with the relevant people in your space. Whenever possible, use “I” statements to express your feelings and avoid blaming or accusing others in the process. As you prudently share, endeavour to create a safe and supportive environment where you and the people you are interacting with can speak freely and feel understood, so that you are all on the same page. Ensure that both your expectations and those of the other person are realistic and that emotional needs are clearly expressed, as that makes your interactions more intentional and meaningful.
Address concerns openly and clearly, and resolve misunderstandings early, as that prevents unnecessary tension in your relationships.
Communicating your needs with clarity and respect builds honesty, deepens trust and strengthens the emotional foundation of your relationships. Ephesians 4:15 underscores ‘love’ and ‘honesty’ as we communicate with people.
