09.05.20 The 3rd Practice for Developing Social Maturity and Healthy Systems as You Wait
3. Choose Your Circle Intentionally and Wisely
The development of social maturity requires careful attention to the company you keep. In this preparation period, be intentional about the friendships and social circles that you allow to influence your thinking, conduct and values. The people around you often shape how you approach relationships, handle conflict and respond to life’s pressures. Proverbs 13:20 emphasises this influence by teaching that those who walk with the wise become wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm. So, be careful.
Choose friends who value integrity, wisdom and responsible living. Avoid environments where gossip, comparison or unnecessary drama are normal patterns of interaction. Instead, cultivate friendships that encourage thoughtful conversation, mutual respect and personal growth. The social environment you maintain today will influence the habits and expectations you carry into future relationships. Surrounding yourself with people who are wise, reliable, emotionally stable and consistent in character will strengthen your judgement and enhance your social maturity.
