09.05.11 The 5th Key for Evaluating a Prospective Partner's Social Maturity and Willingness to Build Effective Support Systems
5. Does the Person Maintain Social Connections Without Emotional Dependency?
Observe whether the prospective partner maintains social connections in a balanced way. Does the person value friendships and community while remaining emotionally independent,; or does she or he depend heavily on others for affirmation and validation?
Zechariah must have recognised Elizabeth’s tendency to maintain vibrant social networks while preserving her emotional independence. As already mentioned, she stayed out of public view for five months. Nonetheless, she was able to garner community presence and support during the event for naming the child (Luke 1:59-63 ),
Flavia showed a very different pattern. She formed close bonds with family members who praised and admired her, but her attitude would quickly change when that admiration faded. People who no longer affirmed her became targets of sarcasm and hostility. Her relationships were shaped by the validation she received, revealing dependence on others’ approval.
A socially-mature prospective partner values relationships without becoming emotionally dependent on them. A balanced partner appreciates friendship and community connections while maintaining inner stability and personal responsibility. The person builds strong relationships without becoming a source of insecurity or emotional pressure to the people in her social network.
