09.04.21 The 3rd Practice for Developing Trustworthy Habits as You Wait Build a Lifestyle of Personal Accountability
3. Build a Lifestyle of Personal Accountability
As you wait, cultivate the habit of living transparently and allowing trusted people to speak into your life. Identify mature and trustworthy mentors who can guide you as you navigate important decisions and personal responsibilities. Establish regular opportunities to share progress regarding your conduct, including your successes, challenges and the way you handled them. Invite them the mentors to ask questions, give guidance and point out areas where correction may be necessary.
Accountability strengthens character because it encourages responsible living and prevents secrecy from weakening integrity. The bible calls this ‘iron sharpening iron (Proverbs 27:17). Through such relationships, you gain perspective and wisdom that help you correct your weaknesses early and strengthen your trustworthiness.
