09.04.20 The 2nd Practice for Developing Trustworthy Habits as You Wait Display Reliability and Consistency in your Commitments

2. Display Reliability and Consistency in your Commitments

During this period of waiting, practise handling your commitments in a reliable manner. Keep your word when it comes to time, responsibilities, financial agreements, communication and other such obligations; even for the so-called small responsibilities. Such an approach reveals whether your word can be trusted.

If circumstances prevent you from fulfilling a commitment, inform the other person early and explain the situation honestly rather than resorting to silence, avoidance, excuses or falsehoods. As you work at consistently fulfilling your daily responsibilities, people gradually recognise that your word carries weight and that you can be depended upon. In this way, reliability becomes a visible part of your character and strengthens the trust that supports healthy relationships.
