09.02.24 The 5th Practice for Developing Healthy Conflict Management Habits as You Wait

5. Practise Forgiveness and Giving Sincere Apologies

As you wait, work on your readiness to forgive as well as genuinely apologising to those you offend, since that is part and parcel of effective conflict management. Accept responsibility without excuses, acknowledge the hurt caused and outline how you will change your behaviour from then on. To forgive an offender, release bitterness but do not cancel the need for wise boundaries and accountability. Practise humility, empathy and willingness to grow and learn. Ephesians 4:32 directs you to “be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you” (). By apologising sincerely and forgiving genuinely, you can heal relationships, resolve conflicts and build trust while strengthening your relationships.
