09.04.24 The 6th Practice for Developing Trustworthy Habits as You Wait Seek God’s Guidance and Wise Counsel
6. Seek God’s Guidance and Wise Counsel
Finally, use your waiting season to allow God to examine your character, recognising that self-assessment can sometimes be limited or influenced by emotions. Invite God fearing and trustworthy mentors who know you well to provide honest feedback about your conduct and relationships. Give them permission to ask difficult questions and to challenge any behaviour that could weaken your trustworthiness.
Scripture reminds us that plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed (Proverbs 15:22). Such guidance strengthens your ability to recognise trustworthy conduct in your own life and correct weaknesses before a prospective partner appears. In addition, wise counsel helps you identify trustworthy character in the people you encounter and relate with as you prepare for marriage.
