10.05.22 The 2nd Practice for Developing Personal Character Before Marriage as You Wait

2. Strengthen Your Discipline

During this season of waiting, learn to set personal goals that shape your lifestyle, then make sure you consistently achieve them. Complete your commitments without being pushed. Follow your moral compass by choosing what is right even when no one is watching or supervising you. Remember that your unseen habits and the decisions you make in private can ‘leak’ to the surface. Therefore make it a point to develop your ‘self-leadership’. Remember that whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much (Luke 16:10).

Establish routines that promote responsibility and accountability so that you become a dependable person who can be trusted with commitments, resources and relational responsibilities. Such an effort prepares you to be a reliable partner in marriage.
