10.01.20 The 1st Practice for Developing Effective Communication Habits as You Wait
1. Strengthen Clarity and Direct Expression as You Prepare
During your waiting season, develop the habit of communicating clearly and honestly rather than leaving hearers to assume or guess what you mean. Learn to state your thoughts without exaggeration, hidden meaning or indirect messages, so that what you say remains accurate and easy to understand. Choose words that match your intentions and remember to confirm meaning where necessary. Let your ‘yes’ ‘ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no’ be ‘no’ (Matthew 5:37).
Cultivate the discipline of communicating with purpose and restraint. Before you speak, be clear about your message and the outcome you want to achieve. Avoid words that create confusion, unnecessary defensiveness or avoidable conflict. When a potential spouse finally surfaces, you will already have the maturity to respond with steadiness and consistency, creating a respectful atmosphere and reducing misunderstandings in your relationship.
