10.04.23 The 3rd Practice for Developing a Teamwork Mindset as You Wait

3. Apply Your Strengths to Benefit Relationships

In your waiting season, become intentional about using your strengths to support the people around you rather than using your abilities as a tool for comparison. Identify what you do well and apply it in ways that add value to the group, strengthen progress and improve the quality of outcomes. This helps you understand that strengths are most useful when they serve others, not when they advertise you as an individual. See what 1 Peter 4:10 says (NKJV): 10Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

Develop the discipline of serving without competing. Sometimes your contribution is noticed openly and sometimes it is behind the scenes; but maturity allows you to remain consistent in either case. Learn to appreciate the strengths of your peers without insecurity and become comfortable working with people whose gifts and personalities are different from yours.

When marriage becomes a consideration, you will already have the maturity to accommodate differences with grace and to work successfully with someone who does not think, function or communicate exactly as you do.
