What is Effective Communication?

Effective communication is the process of exchanging information between partners, such that the message is received, understood and validated the way the sender intended. It involves actively expressing one’s needs, emotions and perspectives while listening with empathy, ensuring that the message impacts the targetted partner or any other person that an individual is communicating with. The expressions can be in the form of words, tone and body language.

Communication is effective when there is shared meaning between the two partners or other recipients for that matter; which essentially glues or holds relationships together, producing emotional security, clarity and closeness within a relationship.
