04.08.20 The 16th Key for Adding Value as an Employee

16. Pursue Personal Wellness

Broadly speaking, “wellness’ refers to practising healthy habits that enable you to ‘thrive’ and enjoy life instead of just ‘surviving’. Wellness is multifaceted, comprising physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational or occupational, financial and environmental wellness.

Wellness is so important for a value-adding employee since you can only deliver your best when you are feeling ‘well’.

My experience has been that spiritual wellness has to be in place first in order for the other seven kinds of wellness to thrive. I learnt this from John 14:6 which says (AMP): Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Spiritual wellness comes from putting Jesus as your priority above all else; and acknowledging Him as the only way to excel.

That said, your body is designed to take 24 hours of rest or downtime for every 7 days or 168 hours; which means that for every week that you work, you should rest for one day (Genesis 2:3). Therefore, set time aside to rest as that will rejuvenate you for higher work performance.
