04.04.08 The 4th Key for Adding Value to Your Husband's Life

4. Guard Against Third Party Interferences

The fact that Michal chose to protect her husband David rather than siding with her father shows that she had effectively succeeded in setting boundaries between her family and relatives.

A value-adding wife shields her husband from third party interferences such as siblings, parents, in-laws or girlfriends; and avoids involving them in her marital affairs. She wisely realises that if left uncontrolled, meddlers can easily drop the perceived value of her husband in the community thereby ruining an otherwise successful marriage relationship.

Therefore, in case you encounter a challenge where you need external help, prayerfully consider finding someone that you both trust. Professional counsellors can provide a safe and structured space where each of you can express themselves and address the issue. However, make sure that your husband is comfortable with that, before opening up to a counsellor or any other third party, rather than surprising him by bringing those people on board without his notice. All in all, keep your issues confidential rather than disclosing them to every Tom, Dick and Harry.

At the apex, the Holy Spirit is a good listener and will guide you in all truth if you reach out and give Him that opportunity (John 16:13).
