04.04.01 Introducing How to Become a Value-Adding Wife

A

value-adding wife is a highly critical ingredient for marriage success. We learn this from Proverbs 31:10-11 which I mentioned in the introduction section of this book. To reiterate, that scripture reads (NIV): 10A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. Those verses highlight the ‘value’ or ‘worth’ that the wife has to offer; its impact on her husband and how she greatly ‘enriches’ him (Proverbs 31:11, NLT).

Proverbs 18:22 says (AMPC): 22He who finds a [true] wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. I suggest that the ‘good thing’ is the value that nothing or no one else other than a woman could add (Genesis 2:20).

These days, a wife may not perform the traditional roles as our grandmothers did since many things have changed over the years. Nonetheless, the value that a wife adds to her husband’s life remains a critical ingredient, if a marriage is to flourish. How can you ‘enrich’ your husband’s life? How can you add value to it? What kind of ‘value’ should you bring to a marriage?

In this chapter, I share my experience on submitting to my husband. We also look at how Michal, the daughter of King Saul, submitted to David during the first phase of their marriage then did the exact opposite in the second phase.
