04.04.11 The 7th Key for Adding Value to Your Husband's Life

4. Be Ready to Serve

‘Readiness to serve’ refers to a woman’s preparedness and capability to willingly and lovingly respond to her husband’s requirements, making him feel holistically well-taken care of. Being ready to serve adds value to your husband’s life through meeting those needs that he would not have been able to adequately or fully address if you were out of the picture.

We see that Michal was not at all prepared to respond to David’s needs since she neither appreciated nor understood the importance that he attached to his style of worship at that event. That was not an isolated case since David promoted dancing as a way of rejoicing in the Lord who takes pleasure in His people and shows them His salvation (Psalm 149:3). Unlike Michal, a Benjamite, he (David) was from the tribe of Judah which means thanksgiving or praise (Genesis 29:35). Therefore, dancing ran in his veins, a fact that Michal should have been very well familiar with. In 2 Samuel 6:21-22, David had to sternly point out why he had danced before the ark the way he did. Let us revisit that scripture here. It reads (NKJV): 21 … “It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord. 22And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. And assumably, tired as he was, Michal’s response is enough for us to suspect that she did not warmly welcome him home after a very busy and highly involving journey and event.

A value-adding wife must be ready to ‘read’ her husband’s needs so that she is in position to look after him diligently and consistently.

In addition, make the effort to manage your home by planning, coordinating and getting practically involved in cooking, cleaning, laundry and creating a homely environment. How can you make your husband’s life easier? Although there are some common chores or activities, identify those that you should not delegate to maids, children or other members of your family.
