04.07.03 Biblical Story of a Value-Adding Businesswoman

Lydia of Thyatira and her ‘Purple Dyes and Fabric’ Business

A biblical example of a value-adding businesswoman is Lydia of Thyatira. We have already discussed a bit about her in chapter 5 on ‘How to Become a Value-Adding Church Member’.

This wealthy businesswoman lived in Philippi and was a seller of very high quality and pricey purple dye and fabric which she would get from her hometown, Thyatira, a ‘textile’ city reknowned for production of those dyes and fabrics. Apparently, the dye would be extracted from snails found in the mediterranean sea after which ‘value’ would be added as the extract was heated, checked to see if ready, then used to dye the garments.
