11. Pray for your Children

In Matthew 20:20-28, and as already said, we see Salome praying that her sons could be given some of the highest positions in ‘paradise’. I suspect that she may have been praying for that for a long time before taking a bold step to verbally ask Jesus for such a favour.

When it came to my children, I actually started praying for them before they were born. Thereafter, I tailored my prayers to their stages of life as they grew up. Now that they are all adults, here is how I pray, at least twice daily; that is, in the morning, and last thing before going to bed: “My children are for signs and wonders in the earth (Isaiah 8:18); they go from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18) and from strength to strength (Psalm 84:7). They possess the gates of their enemies (Genesis 22:17) and engage their enemies in the gates (Psalm 127:5b). No weapon fashioned against my children can prosper (Isaiah 54:17). They are like trees planted by the rivers of water. They do not wilt; they do not wither; and whatever they touch prospers (Psalm 1:3). They are in perfect health (3 John 1:2). Every organ in their bodies is working normally, the way God ordained it to work, from the soles of their feet to the crowns of their heads, nothing missing and nothing needs to be taken out. They are perfect and complete spirit, soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). I position angels wherever that my children are and are going to pass (Psalm 103:20). Angels, make sure that the perfect will of God for my children comes to pass (Romans 12:2)”.

I got a divine revelation of my children’s professions when they were still quite young, then wrote that in a small book together with other prayer items concerning them. It was so important to get God’s direction such that I could pray relevantly. My sister, I am so thankful that God has prospered my children in those professions and beyond what I prayed for (Ephesians 3:20-21).

Therefore, seek God’s vision for your children first, so that your prayers align with their divine destiny. Faith is so important in that journey.

Prayer for a child should be ceaseless (1 Thessalonians 5:17), both verbally and in your thoughts. For instance, laying hands on your belly and making declarations over your unborn child should be a must. Be proactive by praying for their future, for instance, their spouses, teachers, friends, employers and so forth.

Use every opportunity to confess the Word over a child as you touch him or her and even when the child is absent. Praying with your child will go a long way in teaching them that God is present; that they can talk to Him as they would to a best friend; and that He is more real than the air they breathe. Pray that they should never depart from the Lord (Proverbs 22:6).
