04.03.08 The 4th Key for Adding Value to Your Home
4. Identify What You Can Change
As already narrated, when we bought the shell house, there were things that we could change. For instance, we made the verandah wider, to create a seating area for guests if we were to invite people over.
A value-adding home maker creates time to identify what she can change in order to boost the value of her home.
Therefore, go through the list of preferences that you compiled above then identify what you should change. Every woman has what it takes to be creative. So ‘turn-on’ your creativity.
If you are improving your home, start off with changes that would not involve any spending. For instance, can you rearrange your bedroom? Can you adjust something in your bedroom layout? What old things can you revamp and put to some beautiful use so that you make the room cosier and more welcoming? Actually, you may be surprised at just how much improvement you can make by using what you already have.
Some other common ideas include repainting just one wall in a contrasting colour, putting wall-hangings, dry or live plants, cushions, playing with lighting and so forth. The list is endless.
In case you have the opportunity to spend, consider putting some money aside for a ‘make-over’. Examples include redecorating or retheming your lounge, bedroom, kitchen or even the garden; replacing furniture or adding some pieces; changing the flooring, curtains; repainting and replacing fixtures such as lights, cornices and the like. It all depends on your budget.
