04.02.19 The 15th Key for Adding Value to Your Parents' Lives

15. Bless your Parents Tangibly

I recall the day we surprised our parents by buying a car for them; and cannot count the times that they would mention their gratitude during the years that followed.

So, in addition to intangible blessings, a value-adding daughter blesses her parents with things that can actually ‘be touched’ (tangibles); and she is intentional about it.

Therefore, plan to do something for your parents that gives evidence that you exist on the planet. In other words, your presence should be felt by your parents, be they biological or spiritual’, although not as a show-off but in a humble and grateful manner. A parent should eat from the fruits of his or her labour.

Looking on the other side of the coin, you should never curse your parents irrespective of what they may have done to you and how irritated you may feel. See what Leviticus 20:9 says (NKJV): ‘For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. His blood shall be upon him. For those that purport that such a warning was in the Old Testament and is therefore irrelevant these days, Jesus referred to the same scripture in Mark 7:10. Another warning is issued in Proverbs 20:20 which reads (EASY): If you insult your parents, your life will quickly finish, like a lamp that suddenly goes out and leaves you in complete darkness.
