A Personal Experience

Let me share a very short story of how I submitted to my husband before getting my ears pierced. I grew up in an era where ear-piercing was the exception rather than the norm. The common trend was ‘clip earrings’ which could make earlobes really painful. Therefore, when I learnt about the option of ear-piercing, I welcomed the idea with open arms as I would no longer have to suffer the painful clips. However, after sharing the idea with my husband, he had reservations since he was not sure that the procedure would not go wrong. Then came our daughters and his realisation that most babies had their ears pierced from a very young age. Even then, he had to be double sure that the procedure would be safe for our daughters before we proceeded to pierce their ears. It was thereafter that he felt free for me to get mine done. Looking back, a woman could wonder how I could have allowed my husband to control me to such a degree. But my sister, I submitted so lovingly. Plus, I knew that his reluctance was not out of a selfish ambition but rather, he had my health and safety at heart.
