14. Give God Priority

When you read the story of Ruth, you discover that she gave God priority, in her relationship with Naomi, her mother-in-law. We see this in Ruth1:16-17 where Ruth replied to Naomi by saying (NIV): ¹⁶“…your God my God. ^…May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”

A value-adding daughter always gives God priority so as to receive guidance on how to add value to her parent’s lives. Giving God priority refers to adhering to the instructions outlined in scripture. It is impossible to stick to the Word then fail to add value to a parent’s life since ‘the Word’ and ‘value addition’ go together. As already shown through the verses shared in this book, God’s Word provides us with a standard regarding how to display value to our parents.

Therefore, when you behave in line with the scriptures, you will automatically accord your mother and father the value they deserve.
