How to Become AValue-Adding Homemaker

Did you know that many people use the terms ‘home’ and ‘house’ interchangeably when the two terms are actually different? While a house refers to a structure that is built using technical knowledge, materials and finances for purposes of habitation, a home is an emotional or intimate connection or relationship with that structure or personal space, which provides refuge, a sense of belonging, comfort, safety, peace, acceptance and a space where you can express yourself. A home narrates your story.

I strongly believe that a woman was created to convert a house into a home; a space that is uniquely yours, where you express yourself and how you want to live.

In a nutshell, while a house is a place, a home is a ‘feeling’. Home is ‘what you make it to be’, which in essence reflects the value that you intend to add in line with your personality, and how you desire to live your life. ‘There is no place like home’.

In this chapter, we look at how I added value by converting a ‘bland' environment into a home. We also discuss the Shunammite woman from the bible, and how she added value to her home by creating a welcoming space for Prophet Elisha. Then we use those real examples to discuss how you can create or add value to your home.
