08.04.13 The 7th Key for Evaluating a Prospective Partner's Readiness for Progress and Development
7. Does the Person's Actions Consistently Follow His or Her Verbal Commitments?
Observe whether the prospective partner’s actions consistently match his or her words. Does the person carry out what she or he has promised; or are commitments made without consistent or responsible effort and discipline to complete them.
Asenath must have observed Joseph’s tendency to fulfill his verbal commitments. A case in point is where he assured his brothers that he would provide for them and their households during the famine and followed that up by ensuring that they comfortably settled in Goshen. He reaffirmed that commitment even after their father’s death when they feared retaliation (Genesis 50:15–21).
Joseph must have observed Asenath’s consistency in fulfilling what was expected of her within their home. She raised Manasseh and Ephraim within the identity and direction of their father, ensuring that her role as a mother was reflected in the way the boys were brought up.
In contrast, Brenda’s enthusiastic promises about her project never matched the shortcuts, rushed decisions and avoidance of proper processes that followed. She would call Richard for ‘a second opinion’ when cracks appeared, yet dismiss his advice and continue with unsafe building practices. Her repeated failure to align promises with responsible action revealed unreliable judgement and weak commitment to proper development.
Readiness for progress is demonstrated by actions rather than mere declarations. A partner whose conduct consistently supports his or her commitments demonstrates the reliability required to build a stable and trustworthy future with you.
