What is Progress and Personal Development?
Progress and personal development are related. Generally, ‘personal development’ cultivates an individual’s skills, knowledge and attitude, hence building the capacity that a person needs to ‘progress’.
Progress refers to continuous development, intentional growth or moving forward towards a desired goal. It often involves consistent improvement rather than reaching a final state of perfection. Progress is about thinking beyond today, planning wisely and positioning yourself for long-term success.
On the other hand, personal development is the intentional, lifelong process of improving oneself through activities that enhance talents, potential, self-awareness and overall quality of life. It involves setting goals, developing new skills and engaging in self-reflection to become the best version of oneself.
In the context of marriage, ‘personal development’ is the process of becoming a ‘whole’ individual before joining with another, ensuring that the marriage is a partnership between two independent people rather than a search for someone to ‘complete’ you.
