2. Does the Person Seek Guidance When Lacking Clarity Rather than Relying on Assumptions?

Observe how the prospective partner responds when requiring clarity. Does the person actively and responsibly seek guidance? Does the individual ask questions and pursue instruction until she or he understands what should be done; or does the person proceed based on assumptions, avoiding guidance even when the situation calls for it?

Hazzelelponi must have been familiar with Manoah’s tendency to seek guidance when he lacked clarity. After the angel’s first appearance and announcement of the birth of the child, she had actually told her husband the long and short of the angel’s prophecy. Yet Manoah did not rely on second-hand information but wanted to hear straight from the messenger. He prayed that the ‘man of God’ could return and directly teach them what they should do for the child who would be born, so that they get things right (Judges 13:8, 12).

A person who seeks guidance when clarity is needed demonstrates responsibility and maturity. Such a person recognises that important responsibilities sometimes require instruction and that asking questions strengthens judgement rather than diminishing it. A partner who actively seeks guidance is more likely to make careful decisions and handle responsibilities with diligence.
