What is Intellectual Maturity? ü

Intellectual maturity refers to a person’s ability to think clearly through issues using the available knowledge or information in a balanced and disciplined manner, so as to have a sound understanding of the matter, such that she or he is able to examine ideas, reason, consider different perspectives and evaluate options before making a decision.

Intellect should not be confused with intelligence. While intelligence refers to a person’s capacity to learn, understand information and solve problems, intellect, as already explained, is the ability to analyse ideas, reason through complex issues and reflect on matters at hand. A person may possess considerable intelligence yet still demonstrate poor judgement if his or her thinking is shaped by pride, assumptions or impulsive reactions rather than careful reflection.
