08.02.11 The 5th Key for Evaluating a Growth or Fixed Mindset in a Prospective Partner

5. Does the Person Receive Correction without Resistance and Adjust Accordingly?

Observe how the prospective partner responds when corrected or guided. Does the person listen carefully, reflect on what is said and make adjustments where necessary; or does she or he become defensive, justifying actions or shifting responsibility when questioned?

Hazzelelponi must have observed Manoah’s tendency to receive correction with humility and reflection, and adjust as required. When the angel redirected him regarding the offering, instructing him to present it to the Lord rather than treating the visitor as an ordinary guest (Judges 13:15–16), Manoah did not argue, defend his initial intention, resist or react with pride or even get offended by what seemed like a rejection of his well-meant hospitality. Instead, he accepted the correction and adjusted his actions accordingly; even before fully recognising that the visitor was an angel.

Norah consistently reacted defensively to feedback. When the Branch Manager asked for explanations about empty shelves, Norah insubordinately shifted the blame to other team members. Later, when finance discovered discrepancies, she replied, “It must be the supplier’s mistake,” continually justifying her actions and resisting responsibility.

A growth-minded partner remains open to correction and understands its role in personal development. Such a person listens carefully, reflects on what is said and adjusts behaviour where necessary. This posture demonstrates maturity and readiness for long-term partnership, strengthening trust through humility and accountability.
