08.01.22 The 3rd Practice for Developing Intellectual Maturity as You Wait Strengthen Your Discernment

3. Strengthen Your Discernment

Pay attention to how the relationship functions over time. Keeping mental or written notes about recurring behaviours and responses can help you evaluate situations more objectively. Discernment develops gradually as patterns become clearer. Patterns often reveal what occasional events may hide. They can expose strengths that build stability as well as habits that may require attention. Observe how conflicts are handled, how communication unfolds and how affection and respect are expressed. Scripture encourages believers to grow in discernment so that love may abound “in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent” (Philippians 1:9–10). By paying attention to relational patterns, you gain deeper insight into the values and behaviours shaping the relationship.
