Introducing Progress and Personal Development

Progress and personal development are among the essential foundations of a healthy courtship and marriage relationship. In fact, human beings were created with the capacity to develop and expand their influence (Genesis 1:28). Moreover, God intends for us to progress by moving from glory to glory and from strength to strength (2 Corinthians 3:18). Therefore, a stable and fulfilling partnership requires individuals who are willing to grow, learn and take on increasing responsibility as life unfolds. Progressive and developmental partners encourage one another’s growth rather than remaining stagnant or allowing one partner to be left behind.

In this chapter, I will briefly share how progress and development work in our marriage. Through the fictitious story of Richard and Brenda combined with the scriptural account of Joseph and Asenath, I will provide guidance on evaluating a prospective partner’s readiness for progress and development, and how to develop that kind of readiness as you wait.
