05.08.03 The 1st Managerial Flaw that Encourages Negative Gossip : Poor Planning
Poor Planning
Poor planning is one of the major managerial shortcomings behind the rampant negative gossip that plagues some organisations.
The lack of work plans creates idleness that the negative gossipers exploit to invent and publicise rumours instead of doing some meaningful work. Such was the situation at JuaLink Media, where team members were left to do whatever, whenever and however they wanted; without committing themselves to any set targets. As already discussed, prior to Faraja’s arrival, Lulu and her clique had so much free time on their hands that they would just move around aimlessly. That redundancy opened a window for engaging in negative gossip.
Another managerial shortcoming was the ‘poor recruitment planning’ at JuaLink as illustrated by the fact that the team members outnumbered the work at hand. Therefore, that lack of adequate employee engagement created a conducive environment for negative gossip since many team members would often find themselves with no work.
Looking at Aaron’s story, I wonder whether he had a plan to keep the children of Israel proactively under control whilst Moses was away. Did he have a strategy for avoiding any panic in case Moses did not return as soon as they had expected? I would have thought that they continued to have scheduled gatherings in the tabernacle which would have provided a window for Aaron to interact with them. Did he use that opportunity to remind them of just how jealous their God was and the consequences they could suffer in case they ever worshipped other gods?
