05.01.18 Part 2 of Gossip at JuaLink Media Agency

Lulu’s Gossiping Tendencies Froth to the Surface

No sooner had Neema settled into her new job than she noticed that Lulu and her crowd had a glaring appetite for negative gossip, a habit that did not rhyme with the religious values that they would purport. The publicity officer could pick the latest news or compose stories from ‘air’, spice them up and disseminate them with incredible ‘talent’, to whoever could listen. And, to call a spade a spade, Neema would sometimes be unwillingly dragged into the clique’s conversations.

Lulu was so steeped in the gossiping habit that most supervisors would believe her with no questions asked. One such person was Obed, the human resource officer cum acting human resource manager, a brother to Yubu, the board chairman. Obed was a chronic gossiper himself! The two, Obed and Lulu, had a symbiotic relationship where the publicity officer would demand favours from the human resource officer, such as permission for days off in exchange for hot gossip. And to everyone’s amazement, those trade-offs had always worked, though a sober-minded professional could not explain how.

Further, with no job descriptions at JuaLink, Lulu would invest time ferrying gossip from office to office thereby failing to meet several other critically important deadlines, such as sending quotations to customers.

Therefore, it was no surprise that the board eventually hired a publicity manager, Faraja, to bring some sanity into the business development department.
