4. Slander

Slander relates to making false and damaging statements about someone. More often than not, negative gossipers are slanderers as they rely on lies to ferry rumours that malign anddefame the targeted victim. It is important to note that lying is associated with wickedness and demonic influences as shown by what Jesus disclosed in John 8:44. That scripture reads (GNT) : 44You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to follow your father's desires. From the very beginning he ... has never been on the side of truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies. In other words, that scripture describes slanderers as Satan’s children.

When it comes to my story and the people who concocted the bad rumour about us, their assertions were later proved to be slanderous after the truth came to light and doors opened for our business to resume.

Sanballat and Tobiah had a slanderous nature as shown in Nehemiah 6:5-9 when they sent a false message to Nehemiah, insinuating that the reason behind his effort to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem was because he wanted to incite the people to rebel against the King of Persia; so that Nehemiah becomes the king instead. They also added that the latter had hired prophets to proclaim him (Nehemiah) as the suitable king.
