The Family Day that ‘Broke the Camel’s Back’

Things climaxed the day Faraja proposed a ‘family day’ and was key in organising it. With Faraja and Neema busy moving up and down to make sure that everything was running smoothly, Lulu had stealthily worked her way to sit next to Faraja’s husband, Matayo, looking for an opportune moment to strike; and, she did not have to wait too long before Director Eliya gave an open tribute to Faraja. That was when Lulu blurted out venomously that Eliya’s praises were skin-deep since Faraja and the director had ‘a thing going’; not knowing that Faraja had been consistently updating her husband, Matayo, of Lulu’s notorious behaviours and insinuations.

That night, Matayo, a seasoned lawyer, vowed to sue Lulu for defamation, a thing which took a lot of pleading from his wife to calm him down. It was at that point that the two took a decision for Faraja to resign. Thereafter, the board tried to retain Faraja, but no one could reverse her decision. On the other hand, the news of her resignation was received with astounding joy by Lulu, Obed and others in their clique, claiming that ‘the heavens had answered their prayers’. Soon thereafter, Lulu was promoted to ‘publicity manager’.

Coincidentally, Faraja was offered the job of CEO at Bidacom Africa Media, just across the street. And in the blink of an eye, customers started shifting from JuaLink to Bidacom Africa, frustrated that the new publicity manager, Lulu, was grossly inefficient. The exodus was so voluminous that in less than a year, JuaLink started experiencing severe financial stress.
