4. Communication Distortions  

Corruption commonly thrives on communication distortions through perverting, distorting, twisting or falsifying one’s communication or that of an institution or community.  It is not uncommon for corrupt officials to use ‘information gaps’ as a breeding ground for the vice.  Exodus 23:8 highlights this when it says (NKJV): … you shall take no bribe, for a bribe …. perverts the words of the righteous.  In addition, Deuteronomy 16:19 warns that (NKJV): a bribe … twists the words of the righteous.  For example, bribing an officer to alter contracts, falsify minutes or memos, could eventually steer an institution or nation off-course.  Furthermore, an otherwise upright man or woman, once bribed, may end up twisting the truth to suit the requirements of the briber at the expense of that person’s institution, nation or community.   That is what happened to Ntariza then Director at BORA, as elaborated elsewhere.
