03.02.08 The 6th Part of Daudi's Story

Invitation to Participate in Church Ministry

From Tafiti, Daudi was back on the street, fasting, praying, jumping from church to church and from prophet to prophet, hoping that God would smile again and give him another miracle of a job.  It was during one of those ‘church tours’ that the Engineer landed on Pastor Boni, a youthful man with a passion to impact millennials, such as Daudi.  In no time, the Engineer had decided to make Pastor Boni’s church his (Daudi’s) permanent place of worship.

Within just a few weeks, Pastor Boni handpicked the English-speaking, smartly-dressed Engineer as his (Pastor’s) personal interpreter; exempting Daudi from the mandatory discipleship classes that were a prerequisite before anyone could step on the pulpit.  “But Daudi is a devout Christian” the Pastor had argued, the day the leadership team insisted that the Engineer should be discipled first.  What the ‘Man of God’ did not know though, was that under cover, Daudi was the centre of corruption itself.  The Engineer cum interpreter was such a hypocrite that not only would he translate the Pastor’s anti-corruption teachings so convincingly, he would do the same for the prayers that the Pastor relentlessly offered in repentance for the rampant corruption in the nation. 

In the meantime, Daudi had co-opted friends and relatives to pray to the Almighty for yet another job but to no avail.  So, after piles of applications, rejections and interviews with no breakthrough, Daudi asked his sister Mirembe to use her political muscle to hunt for the young man’s employment.  And in only three months, the Engineer was hired as Principal of FUNDIMara, a new Vocational Technical College whose chairman Professor Lawi was Mirembe’s personal friend.
